The COVID 19 crisis has led to a hunger pandemic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Drastic measures to slow the spread have devastated the livelihoods of people in vulnerable communities.The world bank reports that an estimated two million Congolese will fall into extreme poverty during this time.

Most of the the people of the slums made less than ten cents a day before COVID 19. They could barely feed their children then; they have lost that ability now. They are no longer able to feed their children because food is simply too expensive for them. Right now, hunger spreading in the Congo faster than the virus itself. Millions of lives are at risk.

Sadly and scarily, the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo are not just fighting hunger and COVID 19. Today they are facing a combined thread of the pandemic, two ebola outbreaks, and one of the largest measles outbreak in recent history. While there are many different layers of emergencies in the field, food is the biggest need for a people who are starving.

Thanks to your generosity, Mwangaza International has so far provided food to 780 families representing a total of 8.103 people in the vulnerable communities of Kinshasa, Goma and Lubumbashi. The crisis is far from over however, and we need your help to keep these communities fed during these unprecedented times.
